The country’s leading tributes to Take That, Queen, Whitney Houston, Tom Jones, Kylie, and Elton John came together to perform at Weldmar Hospicecare’s Music By The Lake 2023 event, which has raised thousands of pounds for the charity to continue providing specialist end of life care in Dorset.

Around £45,000 will go directly towards this care for patients and their loved ones.

Wet weather on Friday evening at Dorchester Showground didn’t dampen the spirits of the crowd, who enjoyed performances from Rogue Minogue and Rule The World to kick off the weekend. Almost 2,000 revellers enjoyed a sunny Saturday evening with Nya King’s stunning tribute to Whitney Houston, and the return of the Freddie and Queen Experience, who last played at Music By The Lake in 2019. The event concluded on Sunday with Dorset’s own Elton John, Ed Hintze, and Dean Jones putting on a marvellous performance as the legendary Tom Jones.

Comments on social media were overwhelmingly positive about the weekend. Julie Jones said, “We had a weekend ticket and had a fab time. All the acts were great and all got the crowds dancing. Great to be part of an event raising money for Weldmar. Looking forward to next year.”

“Had a great time!” said Jill Eggerton, “Very well organised and super atmosphere. Thank you to everyone involved.”

Sally Rogers added, “What an INCREDIBLE weekend. Brilliantly organised … great acts and atmosphere for a truly worthy cause!”

Matt Smith, Weldmar’s Chief Operating Officer who led the organising committee, said, “After so many months of hard work and planning, it was such a joy to see thousands of people coming to Dorchester Showground to enjoy Music By The Lake. Our sincere thanks go to all of the superb acts who made the show what it was, and to the small army of volunteers who helped with tasks such as marshalling the car park, checking in guests, and stewarding around the arena.

“We had nurses making candy floss, counsellors manning the gates, and charity directors serving burgers. On behalf of all the team at Weldmar, thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and came along to the show, because your support means we can continue to provide specialist care for adults in Dorset who have a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones, as they go through one of life’s most difficult journeys.”
