About Weldmar Hospicecare
Weldmar Hospicecare is a Dorset charity providing specialist end of life care for adults with a life limiting illness. Our compassionate approach supports patients and their families in the community, at home, and in our hospice. All of our care is provided free.
We have a dedicated team of nurses, doctors, therapists, social workers and counsellors, but only 17% of our funds are provided by the NHS – the rest is raised for our Dorset charity thanks to the support of the local community.
Our Vision:
All people in Dorset living with a life limiting illness being able to access the palliative care services they need, when and where they need them.

Our Values
- We care for the people we support, who support us, each other and ourselves.
- We act with integrity by building relationships based on being honest and fair with open communication.
- We are warm and welcoming to everyone.
- We are adaptable, always seeking ways to improve and develop as a charity and as individuals
Our Patron
We are extremely proud that His Majesty, King Charles III, is Patron of Weldmar Hospicecare.
As the Prince of Wales, Charles first became involved with the charity in 1992, when he visited the site where the hospice was being constructed, and he also attended the first AGM of what was then called the ‘Dorset Respite and Hospice Trust’. The future King took a keen interest in the design of the building and the landscaping of the site and made a number of visits. Indeed, he personally chose the type of bricks used for the building and the roof finials. He became our Patron in April 1994, three months after the hospice doors opened for the first time, and has made a number of visits over the years.
