Making Every Moment Matter – Sign up to be a Champion!

For just 30 hours, from 10am on Sunday 19th May, a donation to Weldmar Hospicecare will be doubled as part of an exciting match funding campaign, and we’ve got an ambitious target of £250,000!

By signing up as a Champion, we’ll help you to spread the word to your family and friends that they can make double the difference by making a donation during that time.

What if every donation that paid for a visit from a Weldmar Community Nurse became enough to pay for two visits? If donations that covered the cost of a stay for a patient at our Inpatient Unit, a bereavement counselling session, a visit to provide hands on care and support from our hospice at home service, or a session with a therapist that allows a patient to retain their independence or increase their physical or mental wellbeing, were all doubled so that we can provide twice the care?

You can help us achieve this!

During a time limited, high profile thirty hour online fundraising campaign in May, we are looking to double every single donation made in a thirty hour window, and have set ourselves an ambitious target of £250,000, and we are looking for Champions like you to get involved in spreading the word.

Weldmar Hospicecare

Why do we need your support now?

For the past thirty years we have provided specialist end of life care in Dorset free of charge to those who need it. Since the pandemic, the demand for our services has significantly increased with more people looking to Weldmar for specialist support as they are living with very complex conditions. This year alone, our services are going to cost us around one million pounds more than we are able to raise – that is the equivalent of the cost of care provision for 438 local people.

Weldmar Hospicecare

The money raised through Making Every Moment Matter will help us to ensure that no one in Dorset facing the end of life is left without the care they deserve. Your generous contribution could make a life-changing difference.

2024 marks thirty years of Weldmar Hospicecare providing outstanding end-of-life care to adults in Dorset with a life-limiting illness, and support for their loved ones. Help us be here for future generations to come.

This shortfall impacts hundreds relying on our essential services for comfort, medical care, and support. The demand for our services has never been higher, and people in our care have more complex needs. More people are looking to Weldmar Hospicecare, not just for vital clinical support, but emotional and practical help too.

Common Questions

Why are we doing it?

For the past thirty years we have provided specialist end of life care in Dorset free of charge to those who need it. Since the pandemic, the demand for our services has significantly increased with more people looking to Weldmar for specialist support as they are living with very complex conditions.

This year alone, our services are going to cost us around one million pounds more than we are able to raise. This predicted shortfall in funding that is the equivalent of the cost of care provision for 438 local people.

We hope this new and exciting initiative will help us to raise the much needed funds to enable us to continue providing specialist end of life care in Dorset. With your help as a Champion, we can bridge this gap by raising vital funds and awareness for Weldmar Hospicecare and ensure that no one in Dorset facing the end of life is left without the care they deserve.

When is the campaign taking place?

The campaign starts at 10am on Sunday 19th May 2024 and ends at 4pm on Monday 20th May 2024.

Why is it thirty hours?

This year Weldmar Hospicecare is celebrating its 30th Anniversary. The thirty hours of this campaign represent each year of care across Dorset.

How does it work?

Each individual or team (Champions!) will have a personalised page on the Charity Extra website, which feeds into the wider campaign.

You will get your own link to your personal page, which you can forward to your contacts/potential donors via Text Message, WhatsApp, social media, or email, making it super-easy for them to donate to your cause at the click of a button!

As you contact your list of potential donors, you should hopefully start to raise some money and you can view your incoming donations in real time on your page! The main campaign page displays the overall information about the fundraising campaign, including amount raised and the remaining time we have left to hit our target.

Everything is updated live on the website as the 2 days unfold.

And remember, donations made during the 30 hours will be doubled!

Do I need to do anything in order to set up my page?

No. Your page will be set up for you, so you do not need to do anything unless you want to add any personalisation – such as videos/pictures or any personal message/blurb about why this cause is important to you.

When will I get my personal page link?

All links will be sent out by Charity Extra, around 48 hours before the start of the campaign.

Who would we contact for donations?

Anyone and everyone!

Your neighbours, friends, family, work colleagues, social media following and more…

But many of my contacts have already been approached for donations by other fundraising campaigns – will they really want to donate to my cause?

Yes! They will not necessarily be donating for the cause itself, but simply because you have a personal connection with them and it is you who is asking! The cause is sometimes a secondary reason for donating.

Perhaps they have asked you to support them in the past, and they will be happy to return the favour.

Will you supply me with wording for a text, WhatsApp message or email?

Yes! An example or two will also be sent to each of you (together with your personal links) as the campaign goes live! These can and should be edited as you see fit. If you are short for time you can just forward the example message we send you. However, we recommend personalising the message to your recipient by addressing people by name and including 2-3 short lines about why this cause is so important to you before asking them to donate – rather than just forwarding the link to your page.

Can I phone my contacts to ask them to donate?

Certainly – phone calls can be very powerful and are of course more personal.

I am really nervous; I have never done this before…!

Don’t worry, once you get started and have contacted a few people, you’ll be surprised to discover that it’s easier than you think!

You can always start off by setting your target lower and consider raising it if you hit it!

You can also build confidence by reaching out to your most likely donors first.

It is not as daunting as you think and the campaign team are all on hand to help you through the two days.

Will there be anything that I can share with my contacts, such as videos or other graphics?

Yes, absolutely. We have created a special video and some graphic work for this campaign, which we will send to you in due course.

Can Gift Aid be claimed on a donation?

Yes, as long as the donor is eligible and has completed a Gift Aid declaration with us. There will be a tick box on the donation form for those that wish to apply Gift Aid to it.

Can people also donate with cash, cheques, charity vouchers or bank transfer or is it only via the Charity Extra website?

Yes, you can accept cash, cheques, charity vouchers and bank transfers from people. These are called ‘offline donations’ and you will need to contact one of the team (this must be done during the campaign itself – contact details found at the top of this document) in order to have them added to your page. For bank transfers, please contact the fundraising team.

  • Cheques/vouchers should be addressed to ‘Weldmar Hospicecare’ and sent to the following address with a covering letter to state the donation is for the Making Every Moment Matter Campaign:

Weldmar Hospicecare

Fundraising Team

Weldmar Offices, Hammick House

Poundbury

Dorset

DT1 3SD

  • The charity number is: 1000414

Will I be notified every time someone donates to my page?

Yes, you will receive an email notification for every donation you receive. You will also be able to send them a public ‘thank you’ or reply to any messages they leave with their donation from a link on this email.

Who can I contact if I need any help or support?

If you have any questions in the lead up to the campaign, you can contact us at 01305 261800 or supportercare@weld-hospice.org.uk
