A number of Weldmar community patients have visited the Orangery Restaurant at our Inpatient Unit in Dorchester for a special Christmas lunch.

It’s been paid for thanks to your generosity with our Christmas Appeal, which has the aim of reducing loneliness in Dorset.

As well as raising money for the lunch, the appeal is also fundraising for a Community Outreach Vehicle, that will visit towns and villages across the county, offering support, advice and a friendly chat and cuppa for anyone that needs us.  Find out how you can still make a difference here.

82% of all Weldmar’s end of life care comes in the community, provided by our Community Nursing Team and Day Services.

The community patients who attended the lunch were treated to a traditional three course Christmas meal, complete with crackers and a gift bag each, and also took part in a festive themed quiz and carol singing.

Assistant Practitioner Pauline Scott, who is part of the North Dorset Weldmar Community Nursing team, says, “It was lovely to see everyone here together today.  As soon as they arrived, there was a lovely atmosphere and the conversation was flowing.  Working in the rural areas of Dorset, I know how loneliness can be a problem, particularly at this time of year, so having the opportunity to meet other patients and enjoy a meal together is very welcome.”

Elaine Stockley visits our Dorchester Day Services every Tuesday, and won the Christmas quiz!  She says she really enjoyed the experience.  “It’s been lovely today, meeting people that you’ve never met before.  Once you started talking to everyone else, you know that you’ve all got something in common.  Weldmar do a marvellous job and I was so pleased to be invited today.”
