A donation of Dignity Mugs for our Inpatient Unit

A rather unique donation has been made for the benefit of patients staying at Weldmar Hospicecare’s Inpatient Unit.

Michael Price and Kayleigh Knopp have kindly donated a set of dignity mugs. The two handled design of the mug means that drinking can be easier and safer for people who may have difficulty holding or controlling a regular cup, such as those with dementia, Parkinson’s, or those who have limited hand strength.

Kayleigh told us: “For the last year of her life, my mum Cheryl had problems with her grip, so had to drink her hot drinks from plastic sippy cups – which just didn’t feel the same as ceramic. A month after my mum passed away, I saw some wonderful accessible crockery at National Trust and wished I could have given her that gift. When my mother-in-law Margaret started experiencing motor issues whilst at Weldmar Hospicecare’s Inpatient Unit, I was reminded of these mugs and knew what we had to do.”

Sam White is Catering and Nutrition Lead at the hospice, and says, “We are incredibly pleased with the very generous and thoughtful donation of dignity mugs for the use on the Inpatient Unit. Thank you Kayleigh and Michael.”

Staff Nurse Sarah Spearing adds, “Thank you to Michael and Kayleigh for their generous donation.  The china dignity mugs that have been donated will continue to promote confidence for the user whilst maintaining dignity.  This in turn has a positive impact on ensuring hydration for patients.”
