The EBIKE Cafe in on the harbourside in Weymouth has celebrated its 2nd birthday by announcing that Weldmar Hospicecare has become it’s Charity of the Year, and renamed one it their most popular drinks in the charity’s name.

10p from the sale of every ‘Weldmarccino’ throughout the year will go towards the specialist care provided to people in Dorset with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones.

EBIKE Cafe’s support began with a successful Christmas Shopping Event, which raised a brilliant £792 for Weldmar.

Owner of EBIKE Cafe, Josephine Claxton, decided to support the charity following the short illness of her mum, Margaret Barkway, as she received care at home from the Weldmar Community Nursing team, and then at the Inpatient Unit in Dorchester.

Josephine explains, “My Mum was a force of nature and when she was diagnosed with cancer it knocked all of us for six. The help and support Weldmar gave my Mum, Dad and the whole family was exceptional. From helping Mum at home, to those final days in the hospice. Then with the family afterwards was simply stunning. We never knew the breadth of help and support that Weldmar offered. Weldmar were there with my Mum every step through her illness. That’s why this year, we choose Weldmar Hospicecare as our second yearly Charitable Partner.”

More special events are planned during 2023, as well as the introduction of the rebranded coffee.

Josephine explains, “We want to do something simple and fun and from that thought the Weldmarccino was born. When customers read about it on the menu it sparks a conversation and we tell them about what Weldmar has done for the community and our family. I can tell you there have been a few tears shed by them and us.”

Fiona Hansford, Business Development Fundraiser at Weldmar Hospicecare, added, ”I am delighted that EBIKE Café have chosen to support Weldmar Hospicecare as their charity of the year. On behalf of all the team at Weldmar Hospicecare, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Josephine, Peter and the team for their support, which will help us to continue to provide specialist care to people in Dorset who have a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones. We are very much looking forward to working with them throughout the year ahead and already have some exciting plans in place. ”

EBIKE Cafe is open daily from 10am in the Deheers Building on Custom House Quay, with parking for those arriving by bicycle, and you can even recharge your electric bike at their charging points. In addition, customers will find expert technicians in the dedicated service and workshop zone and a comprehensive sales area stocking a wide range of electric bikes.
