Stampede by the Sea ‘Herd Hero’ Volunteers

< BACK TO VOLUNTEERING

Love West Dorset? Love people? Be a ‘Herd Hero’ at Stampede by the Sea!

From 28th March to 27th May 2025, Bridport, West Bay and Lyme Regis will be transformed into an incredible, family friendly art trail featuring around fifty highly decorated elephants! Stampede by the Sea is raising funds and awareness for Weldmar Hospicecare in the area, and we’re looking for individuals to be part of our special team of volunteers.

As a Herd Hero, you’ll:

  • Be the face of the event, welcoming visitors and answering questions.
  • Help families navigate the art trail and discover hidden gems.
  • Share your enthusiasm for Stampede by the Sea and Weldmar Hospicecare, and create a positive, memorable experience.
  • Meet new people, have fun, and make a difference in your community!

We’re looking for you if you:

  • Are outgoing and enjoy interacting with people of all ages.
  • Have a positive attitude and a passion for the local area, the trail, and the cause.
  • Can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Are reliable and committed to a few fun shifts during the event.

The volunteer roles are:

TRAIL HERD HERO

You will help to maintain and clean the elephants, and report any problems or damage. You’ll also need to answer questions about the trail or Weldmar Hospicecare, or direct people on where to find the answers they need on the app or website. Shifts will be from 10-12 and 1-3 daily, and you will be working in pairs.

POP UP SHOP VOLUNTEER

Based at the Salt House in West Bay, the pop-up shop will be open from 10-4pm each day. Your responsibilities will include handling cash and using a till, presenting and handling stock, greeting the public, selling maps and merchandise, and representing Weldmar Hospicecare. You will be working alongside a member of Weldmar staff.

FAREWELL EVENT AND AUCTION SUPPORT

Following the trail, we will have our Farewell Event and Auction at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester. We would love to continue working with you at these events if you are interested. They take place between 14th and 19th June.
