Weldmar nominated for second consecutive year for prestigious legacy fundraising award

6th February 2024

Fundraising News

Weldmar Hospicecare is in the running to be recognised for the second consecutive year at the Smee and Ford Legacy Giving Awards.

In April 2023, the charity picked up two prizes at an awards ceremony to recognise excellence in legacy fundraising – encouraging supporters to leave a gift in their Will.

Weldmar beat competition from a number of well known national charities, picking up the prizes for Most Innovative Legacy Campaign, and Outstanding Achievement by a Legacy Fundraising Team, and had been shortlisted for two more.

This year, Weldmar has been shortlisted in the awards for Legacy Campaign of the Year (income under £3m) and Internal Collaboration Champions, recognising the starring role charity staff have played in the campaign, as well as educating staff on the importance of this fundraising.

A Weldmar nurse or health care assistant features in each advert, with the tagline “To those who need end of life care in Dorset, I leave…’ followed by their first name. Staff from both our Inpatient Unit and Weldmar at Home service have taken part.

Fundraising Lead at Weldmar Hospicecare, April Whitehead, says, “The success of our gifts in Wills campaign has captured the attention of the people of Dorset thanks largely to our nursing colleagues who have taken part. We are very proud of them, and they have done a wonderful job helping to engage local people, and spread the word about the importance of this type of fundraising.

To be recognised for Legacy Campaign of the Year for a second consecutive year is an outstanding achievement. We have evolved the campaign from being seen on social media and buses in the area to now investing in television advertising, which has been an exciting development for a local charity. The digital options offered by Sky and ITVX means that we can deliver the advert locally, to a targeted audience, efficiently and affordably.”

Polly Avgherinos, Managing Director, Smee & Ford: “We extend our congratulations to Weldmar Hospicecare for their nominations in the Legacy Campaign of the Year (income under £3m) and Internal Collaboration Champions categories at the upcoming Smee & Ford Legacy Giving Awards. We eagerly anticipate their presence at the April ceremony, where we will come together to acknowledge and celebrate the remarkable talent, dedication, and enthusiasm of individuals contributing to the field of legacies. Their impactful work on behalf of legators, charities, and beneficiaries deserves recognition and appreciation.”

The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges, and the awards will be presented at a prestigious ceremony in April.
