Thirteen incredible supporters raise almost £8,000 running for Weldmar at Weymouth Half Marathon

On Sunday 16th March, thirteen incredible runners took on the challenge of running the Weymouth Half Marathon to raise a combined total of £7,913 for Weldmar Hospicecare. Also representing Weldmar were some of the charity’s London Marathon and Paris Marathon runners who were using the event as part of their training. The money raised will go towards providing specialist end of life care in Dorset, and support for families experiencing a life limiting illness.
The Weymouth Half Marathon, organised by Just Racing UK, celebrated it’s 10th anniversary this year, and they chose Weldmar Hospicecare as their charity partner. Weldmar offered to refund the place for any runner who managed to raise £250 on a JustGiving page for the charity, with many of the runners exceeding the target.
Participants were treated to sunny, yet windy conditions on the day and ran around beautiful landmarks in Weymouth, including the seafront, Lodmoor Country Park, the historic harbour and through Nothe Gardens.
Weldmar Fundraiser, Eden Fraser, supported the runners on their fundraising journey and was delighted to be at the race on the day. She said “We are really touched by the support from all of our runners, we have 13 runners running for us today, excited to be here, and we have our cheering voices warmed up. Our runners have raised a huge amount of money and have dedicated a huge amount of time to their training.”
Weldmar’s Children and Young Person’s Counsellor Sandra, joined the charity’s cheer station to encourage all the participants. “It is great that there is so much support for Weldmar, the support from the community, the support from the runners and from the Just Racing team, and it is just really brilliant that they have all got behind Weldmar, and I hope everyone does well.”
