How to leave a gift in your Will to Weldmar
One of the most powerful ways you can help Weldmar Hospicecare today is to leave an affordable gift in your Will. You’ll be directly helping nurses like Caroline to make every moment matter for those in our care.
This costs you nothing in your lifetime, but your legacy will be the continuing care of people in Dorset who have a life limiting illness.
We’ll provide full support to you to make it as easy as possible. You can even arrange to write or update your Will for free.
Leave the gift of care from people like Bonnie
Leaving a gift in your Will will ensure that people like Bonnie, in this video, can spend time caring for Eileen. This not only gives Eileen the care and comfort she needs, but supports her loved ones through the most difficult of times.
At Weldmar, we help to make every moment matter for those in our care. Moments such as Stan and Ruth getting married at our Inpatient Unit, or enabling Graham to attend his favourite music festival for a final time.
Precious moments such as a family members being able to be a husband, wife, son or daughter again, without the need to be a carer. Bringing a smile to Josephine’s family when times were tough, or providing a safe space at our Wellbeing Choir for Wilda as she navigates her bereavement.

Leaving a gift in your Will is easier and more affordable than you think
Because we don’t receive the money now but in the future, it means that we can build and plan ahead for our care for future generations, and it doesn’t cost you anything in your lifetime. Gifts can be a lump sum or a percentage of what you leave behind, so can be affordable no matter what your circumstances.
We can send you a useful information pack, or you can write your will online, free, quickly, and securely.

Common Questions
What if I already have a Will but now want to include a gift to Weldmar Hospicecare?
While many aspects of your Will may remain the same as you go through life, some situations may change prompting you to make alterations – such as considering leaving a gift to charity.
If you already have a will but now want to include a gift to Weldmar Hospicecare, you can do so by choosing to write a Codicil, which is simply an addition to an existing Will instead of rewriting it completely.
Weldmar Hospicecare can provide you with this form if you wish to include us in your existing Will.

What happens if I don’t make a Will before I die?
This is a common question, and one that is very pertinent today with so many multi-faceted family relationships, and the fear of a loved one or close friend missing out.
If you die without a valid Will your estate is distributed under the existing Intestacy Law. This has a strict order of the direct family members who can inherit. Therefore, unmarried partners, step-children and friends would be excluded.
Writing your Will ensures that your wishes are met.

Why should I write a Will?
Making a will is not just about sorting out your finances. A Will ensures that your final wishes are clear, and that your possessions and property are going to the right place, and the family and children you leave behind are looked after.
How do I prepare for writing or updating a Will?
Before visiting your solicitor, or making your Will online, it’s a good idea to prepare.
Think about:
- What it is you own
- Who you want to remember in your Will
- The two people (executors) who will carry out the wishes in your Will
- How you would like to leave a gift to a charity, such as Weldmar Hospicecare.
If you have already written your Will, it’s a good idea to review it every five to ten years to ensure it still reflects your wishes.
What kind of gift can I leave?
Your gift can be as large or small as you like. There are three main ways of leaving a gift.
1. A percentage of what you leave behind. This could be anything from 1% to 100%.
2. A fixed cash gift. This could be any amount you choose, such as £500, £1,000, or £100,000 – it’s up to you.
3. An item you own. This could be anything from a piece of jewellery, a classic car, or even a property.
