It’s always nice to meet people who fundraise for Weldmar Hospicecare, and it’s really special when young people help to make a difference towards the end of life care we provide in Dorset.

Eleven year old Daniel Bushell has raised £300 for us by growing and selling plants!

He’s been doing it as part of his Civic Award with Wyke Regis Junior School.

“For the Civic Award, you have to do a physical hobby, a non-physical hobby, a service to the school, and do something for the community, like raising money.  I thought it was a really good thing to do, and give me a sense of achievement”.

Weldmar Hospicecare is a cause close to the Bushell family, as Daniel’s Grandma was cared for at home by a Weldmar Community Nurse at the end of her life.  “I thought it was a really good charity to support, because they do such great things”.

Daniel’s dad Paul is a keen gardener, and together they potted around four hundred plants.  “We filled up quite a few pots with compost, and put the seeds in, and then we had to seperate them into lots of different smaller pots.  We sold them for a pound each”.

The biggest success Daniel had was selling them on the local marketplace pages on Facebook, and they even had some repeat customers.

Does a career in gardening beckon for Daniel?  He’s not sure just yet, but will carry on his new hobby!

Thank you Daniel!
