Thousands being raised for Weldmar thanks to homemade face masks

28th July 2020

Last week, it became compulsory for anyone going into a shop to wear a face covering, and a number of talented Dorset crafters have turned this to the advantage of Weldmar Hospicecare.

Annette Hart, who runs the Made With Love by Annette Hart Facebook page, has been able to donate just over two thousand pounds that she has made from selling her homemade face masks.

Annette, and her daughter Sue, are pictured above with members of our nursing team, handing over a cheque for £2,011.

Annette has been a long term supporter of the charity, initially busking and clowning before turning to crafts.  Her grand-daughter set her Facebook page up, and from there she sells all the items she makes for Weldmar.  She said she started to make the face masks when she saw how much they were being sold for online, and decided to do them in return for donations that were within people’s means.

She has made more then six hundred masks, using 300m of elastic in the process!

Emma told the Dorset Echo, “Producing the items has made me feel like I have contributed towards helping my local community during lockdown – I’ve been able to give a little back.”

You can read more about Emma’s story here.

Our thanks also go to Anna Forden at The Wool Shop on Portland, who has been making and selling masks, and has raised £500 for Weldmar in the process.
