Weldmar Hospicecare is once again helping Dorset residents to tick something off their Christmas to do list early, by launching their Christmas Tree collections for January. For homes and businesses that have a real Christmas tree, Weldmar’s Christmas Treecycle can ease the pressure of disposing of the tree at the end of the festive season. Christmas tree collections can now be booked in for January 2025 in return for a suggested minimum donation of £10 per tree to the charity.

Tree Collection Areas

Collections will be made between Saturday 11th and Monday 13th January in the Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester, Beaminster, Blandford, Bridport, Sherborne, Shaftesbury and Gillingham areas.

Treecycle Initiative Overview

Locally-run Trinity St. Christmas Trees, are kindly partnering with Weldmar again this year and will be making the collections on Weldmar’s behalf, alongside Weldmar volunteers. Tamzin Hyde from Trinity St. Christmas Trees, says “Once again we are delighted to be partners and supporting Weldmar in their fundraising Treecycle scheme. In January, our team of intrepid volunteers criss crossed the county collecting trees, over 1,200 trees and in turn helped to raise over £13,000 pounds for Weldmar. All the team here at Trinity St. Christmas trees are proud to help and support this great charity who touch so many lives locally.”

Knighton Countryside Management are also supporting the Treecycle initiative for another year and will be helping to dispose of the trees in an eco-friendly manner. Mark Gibbens, Director at Knighton Countryside Management said “Weldmar Hospicecare holds a special place in the hearts of many in Dorset, including our team. As a Dorset based business, we’re honoured to donate our time each year to ensure over 1,000 trees are disposed of in an environmentally sustainable way. Once collected, the trees are brought to a central location where one of our Mus-Max Tractor Chipper, nicknamed ‘The Terminator, ’ processes them into biomass fuel. This efficient system allows volunteers to quickly return to the road and collect more trees, raising even more funds for this fantastic scheme. We’re proud to continue supporting Weldmar through this important initiative.”

Fiona Hansford, Fundraising Lead at Weldmar, says the money raised will make a significant difference for those who need the charity’s care. She says, “This will be the seventh year of running Weldmar’s Christmas Treecycle, and each year it has grown, every donation for every tree collected means that we can continue to provide specialist care for adults in Dorset living with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones.”
