Weldmar’s ‘leave a gift in your Will’ campaign to encourage supporters to leave a gift in their Will has been shortlisted for more national recognition.

The charity has been shortlisted in the Best Fundraising Campaign category in the Third Sector Awards.

The campaign to encourage local people to leave an affordable gift in their will to Weldmar was given a fresh new look in 2022, and focused on real members of the nursing and care team at the charity. The strap-line of ‘To those who need end of life care in Dorset, I leave…’ is followed by the name of the staff member pictured.

The campaign has been seen on social media and online, in local magazines, on buses, radio, and even on a Sky TV advert, with less than 4% of the income received in supporters’ gifts in Wills invested back into the advertising of the campaign.

In April, Weldmar won ‘Most Innovative Fundraising Campaign’ and ‘Outstanding Achievement by a Legacy Fundraising Team’ at the Smee and Ford Legacy Giving Awards and was shortlisted in two other categories.

April Whitehead, Fundraising Lead, says, “The income from gifts left to Weldmar in Wills is so important, as it effectively funds one in three of the people we care for. We only started to invest in advertising for this in 2019 and it’s gone from strength to strength. The latest campaign featuring real members of staff is simple but effective and eye catching, and can be seen or heard on so many platforms.

“Writing your will now means that we have sustainable income in the future, and that we can continue to provide care for adults in Dorset who have a life limiting illness, as well as supporting their families. It costs you nothing in your lifetime and is probably more affordable than you think. You can leave a set amount or a percentage of what you leave behind, and the team here is available to help you every step of the way.

“Our thanks to Bonnie and Maxine from our Weldmar at Home team, and to Sandra and Julie from our Inpatient Unit for being the faces of this campaign, and it’s so lovely to see it getting the recognition it deserves in these awards.”

The Third Sector Awards take place on 22nd September.
