“They can just have fun and be kids”: Creating special memories and connections at Dorset Falconry Park for families in Weldmar’s care
2nd April 2026
This Easter holidays, Weldmar’s Patient and Family Support Services team are facilitating special activities to support families in Weldmar’s care, and today they have paid a visit to Dorset Falconry Park.
In the beautiful sunshine, families got to learn all about the incredible birds at the centre, take part in games and got creative with clay – all to help enhance wellbeing, and meet and connect with others in similar situations.
The Weldmar team included Sandra Francis, our Children and Young Person’s Bereavement Counsellor. “The support we get from Sandra and everybody has been huge, especially for my two boys,” explains Pip, who attended the session. “These days just let them breathe a little bit and just forget about everything we’ve gone through the last couple of years and just have fun and be kids.” She added, “Weldmar are always there at the end of the phone if we need to talk to them or anything, it’s invaluable. They’re amazing.”
Sandra said, “The Ranch and Dorset Falconry Park have been a great supporter of Weldmar, they put on and organise these activity mornings for us in half terms and holidays.”
“Our support for children and young people is up until the age of 18, so that is part of that support for these families today, for both the children and their parents, to get them all together, to talk if they’d like to, and just to let them know everybody here gets what it is they’re going through.”
