How Weldmar is investing in Liama’s aspirations to become a chef with an apprenticeship

Liama Dale is a chef at our hospice in Dorchester, and combines her role with an apprenticeship with Coastland College – Weymouth. Our top notch catering team provides delicious and nutritious food for patients, creating meals that look and taste wonderful whilst also keeping in mind the complex dietary needs that many of our patients have. They also provide hot and cold meals and snacks for visitors, as well as staff and volunteers, in the Orangery.

“I can learn and earn at the same time,” says Liama, “and I’m really enjoying the process. Personally and professionally it has helped me a lot. I have learnt a lot of skills from my manager, Sam, and from Neil and Alan at the college. I’ve lot lots of styles and techniques, and about food and diets … they always support me and help me.”

Sam White, Weldmar’s Catering and Nutrition Lead, adds, “Liama joined us as a Catering Assistant, but it was evident she had the skills to progress, so we gave her the opportunity to go to college. It’s benefitted us because we can really tailor the skills we need in our organisation.”
