Gift Aid Awareness Day: The difference ‘ticking the box’ makes to Weldmar when donating items to our charity shops

9th October 2025

Weldmar Hospicecare

You can make your donations to Weldmar go further by making sure you tick the box for Gift Aid.

If you are a UK taxpayer, we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 that you donate. So, if you donate £20 we can claim an extra £5, making your gift worth £25! It’s easy to do and is at no extra cost to you. This includes regular or one off donations, the sales on items you donate to our shops, and event sponsorship – and it can make a huge difference.

For example, last year*, Weldmar reclaimed £353,711 in Gift Aid from donated items sold in our charity shops. This would pay for our Specialist Hospice at Home Service for an entire week, meaning that patients at home across Dorset can receive care, support, comfort and dignity from their locally based team of Weldmar Community Nurses, Health Care Assistants, and Assistant Practitioners.

So, if you’re heading into one of our charity shops with some items to donate, please make sure that you ask to Gift Aid.

You’ll be pleased to know that paperwork is minimal! All that is required is the completion of a simple form, which merely requires your name, address including postcode, and a signature requesting the charity to treat your donation and all future donations as Gift Aid donations. This declaration only needs to be completed once in order to cover all future donations to the charity which you may choose to make. It may, of course, be cancelled at any time.

We can even claim Gift Aid retrospectively, on any donations that you’ve made in the past four years. Think you qualify? Fill in the form below to declare your Gift Aid status.
