Joe’s round the clock cycle challenge – from Dorset to Wales and back again in 24 hours

During lockdown many people found new interests and hobbies to keep themselves occupied. For Joe Tilsed it was cycling, an activity that not only allowed him to get out of the house, but also to clear his head. A few months ago, he joined a local cycling club, and now he’s getting ready to bike to Wales and back in just 24 hours to raise money for Weldmar Hospicecare.

Both Joe’s Dad and Grandad were cared for by Weldmar, and so supporting the charity is very important to him. Joe says ‘Weldmar were amazing, my Grandad was so relaxed while he was there. The nurses were so nice and supportive. With my Dad, it was so good to know that he was being well cared for. And in his last ten days, we were able to be constantly with him by his side.’

Joe adds ‘Other families’ friends have been cared for by Weldmar and I know they’ve always had amazing experiences like we did. Weldmar just takes the pressure away.’

Joe’s looking forward to his challenge but even after putting in hours’ worth of training he knows that over 18 hours in the saddle, and not sleeping for 24 hours, will be tough. The ride starts on Friday 20th August at 8pm, he’ll cycle through the night, arriving in Wales early the next morning. After a quick stop to refuel, he’ll begin the journey back to Poole.
