Local fundraisers scoring big with paramedics vs police community football match
5th February 2026
At Weldmar Hospicecare, we are always humbled by the creative and energetic ways our local community chooses to support us, so we are delighted to be one of the chosen charities to benefit from the proceeds of the Dorset Nines Charity Football Match on Saturday 2nd May 2026.
This match will see the South Western Ambulance Service taking on Dorset Police in a “Battle of the Sirens” friendly football showdown at the Bob Lucas Stadium, home of Weymouth Town FC.
It’s been organised by Dorset Nines, an initiative founded by Chris Taylor and Jake Bailes, who both work in the ambulance service and wanted to raise money for charities and organisations they often find themselves working alongside in order to provide care for the local community.
Supporting Weldmar
Jake and Chris decided to choose Weldmar as one of their primary charities for this year’s event, having seen the impact of specialist end of life care first hand.
“In our line of work we see the impact Weldmar has on a regular basis.” says Chris “They’re so important for so many families in Dorset, and we wanted to help support their provision of end of life care. What better way than arranging an event in the local community, to raise money for local causes and help highlight the vital services they provide.”
A day for the whole family
More than just a football match, the stadium will be open from 3pm where you will be able to get a close-up look at emergency vehicles used by first responders, take part in hands on CPR demonstrations, and peruse stalls from local vendors before kick-off at 5:30pm. There will also be post-match entertainment, so you can listen to music, soak up the atmosphere and head to the stadium bar for tasty food and drink until 9pm.
Pop the date in your diary and get your tickets for a fun-filled and action-packed community day, to turn a friendly emergency services rivalry into raising money for local causes, including Weldmar Hospicecare, helping us provide dignity, comfort, and compassion to patients with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones during the most difficult of times.
