“Running for Weldmar was a privilege and an honour” Weldmar’s incredible London Marathon runners brave the heat to raise £30,000 for the charity!
4th May 2025
< BACK TO NEWSA huge congratulations to Weldmar Hospicecare’s amazing team of runners who took part in the TCS London Marathon last weekend. Temperatures were high, but the runners battled through to complete the iconic race, and collectively have raised £30,000 towards specialist end of life care in Dorset, and support for families experiencing a life limiting illness.
Whilst some runners chose to support Weldmar having secured a place in the official ballot, others were given one of the limited Gold Bond places by the charity.
Eden Fraser from Weldmar’s fundraising team says, “A huge thank you and well done to all of our runners, not only for race day but all of the hard work that they put into the training and fundraising in the lead up. It was a privilege to be there to support them at our cheer station on the day, there is always such a great atmosphere at the event. We are extremely grateful for their determination and support.”
Some of our runners shared with us their motivations for taking part and how race day went:

“Running the London Marathon was everything and more than I envisaged it would be!! The atmosphere was incredible and the support from the thousands of spectators really helped to spur me on and get me around the course. Seeing Eden and Clare from Weldmar at both mile 13 and 22 was great, their cheers also spurred me on and helped to remind me why I was doing it!
“Weldmar is such a fantastic charity, the service and support they give to those who need it in Dorset is second to none! They not only care for those who are sick but also family members and their carers as well. It saddens me to think that they have to work so hard to raise enough money to keep going. Running for Weldmar was a privilege and an honour!
“I absolutely loved the whole experience and just want to do it all over again!”

Tori
“I was running for my dad who passed away from cancer in 2015 so this year marks the 10 year anniversary of losing him. He was cared for by the amazing people at Weldmar and they were also a great comfort and support to us in his last few days.
“I ran the portland coastal marathon a few years back to raise money for Weldmar and Pancreatic cancer UK and have since run the New York and Berlin marathons but this one was particularly special, running for this amazing charity on the 10 year anniversary, and with all my family there to cheer me on. It was tough in the heat but glad I did it.”

Andrew
“My London Marathon experience was one of the best things I’ve ever done, an achievement I’ve always wanted to do. The time and effort dedicated to training before was worth every penny I made for Weldmar Hospicecare.
“It is a local hospice that has cared for many I know and they do a truly amazing job. I feel very proud of the amount I have raised and support from family & friends.”

Sandra
“Last Sunday was an incredible day from start to finish! It felt overwhelming to see so many people running for their charities including so many supporting their local hospices. I felt so proud to be crossing the finish line and having that iconic London Marathon medal put over my head, knowing I had raised money for Weldmar.”

Jemima
“It was a privilege to raise money and awareness for Weldmar Hospice on what was an absolutely awesome marathon day in London – knowing that family and friends had dipped into their pockets for such a worthwhile cause certainly spurred me around the course last Sunday.
“It was a true rollercoaster of emotions, the most overwhelming of which was the pride that I both managed to achieve something I never thought I could, and raised nearly £2,000 pounds for your amazing work. Thank you for allowing me to represent you!”
