Metro Rod and Metro Plumb go the extra mile to raise more than £12,000 for Weldmar

18th November 2025

Weldmar Hospicecare

The incredible teams at Metro Rod and Metro Plumb recently completed their One Metro: Miles for a Mission challenge, with employees walking, cycling and running to raise funds for two charities close to their heart – one of which being Weldmar Hospicecare.

The charity has close ties to the Metro Rod/Metro Plumb family through former franchisee Martin Anderson and his family in Bournemouth, making this support especially meaningful. Pippa Aaron, Martin’s daughter and Chief Operating Officer, visited our Inpatient Unit to present Fiona Hansford from our Fundraising team with a cheque for £12,292!

The challenge was also a tribute to the memory of another former franchisee, Jean O’Brien, whose passion for charity inspired the whole initiative.

All of the activities took place in the lead up to the Metro’s annual conference – and congratulations to Chris McCauley, Head of Business at Capital Fleet Solutions (the conference’s charity sponsor), for completing a phenomenal 120 mile run to the conference venue in just over 24 hours, raising both awareness and donations.

The other half of the funds raised went to charity FABB, based in Norfolk, which supports vulnerable women and victims of abuse.

Stephen Chambers, Chief Operating Officer of Metro Rod & Metro Plumb shared his pride:

“Our One Metro: Miles for a Mission challenge has brought our teams together in a powerful way. Every mile walked, cycled or run has helped raise awareness and funds for two charities that stand for community, care and support. Reaching a total of £24,585 is a fantastic achievement and reflects the commitment of everyone involved. We’re proud to stand alongside Weldmar Hospicecare and FABB to support their vital work.”

Fiona Hansford, Lead Fundraiser for Weldmar Hospicecare said:

“We’re enormously grateful to Metro Rod and Metro Plumb for selecting Weldmar Hospicecare for this fundraising support. The donation will make a real difference in enabling us to continue providing specialist, compassionate care for local adults with a life-limiting illness, and support for their loved ones at the most difficult of times.”
