The elephants have arrived: Weldmar’s Stampede by the Sea trail launches in West Dorset
28th March 2025
< BACK TO NEWSAfter two years in the planning, Weldmar Hospicecare’s Stampede by the Sea art trail has officially started today in West Dorset.
The event, organised in partnership with Wild in Art, has seen almost sixty brightly decorated elephants located in public spaces around Bridport, West Bay, and Lyme Regis.
31 of the sculptures are larger elephants, which have been designed and painted by artists, whilst most of the ‘Mini Herd’ of smaller elephants have been created by local schools.
Sponsors and partners of the project, artists, local dignitaries, and charity trustees joined Weldmar and Wild in Art for a special launch event at the Salt House in West Bay today – a building that will be ‘Trail HQ’ for the next eight weeks, and includes a shop selling merchandise from the trail.
Funds are being raised for Weldmar Hospicecare through donations, the sale of goods in the shop, tickets to events such as the Farewell exhibition and Paint & Prosecco Parties, and of course the final auction of elephant sculptures this June.
