Weldmar marks Remembrance Sunday in Sherborne with prize winning window display

12th November 2019

Weldmar Hospicecare

Weldmar Hospicecare’s shop in Sherborne has been awarded third place in the town’s Poppy Appeal Window Display Challenge.

The competition is organised by the Sherborne branch of the Royal British Legion, with more than sixty shops and businesses taking part.

Every year, locals and veterans come out in force for the annual Remembrance Sunday parade through the town centre, followed by a service at the Abbey including the two minute silence, wreath laying, and a rendition of the Last Post.

The team at Weldmar’s charity shop in Sherborne decorated their window in Cheap Street with items from the Army, Royal Air Force, and Navy, spanning the years from the First World War up to the Falklands conflict.

“I really wanted to get our volunteers involved in the display,” says shop manager Tash Rickman, pictured above with their certificate.  “Thanks to them we had some very special items, including the uniform of a Royal Navy Commodore.”

Shirley, a volunteer in the shop for eight years, brought in her husband’s discharge certificate, and Merchant Navy veteran’s badge.

Weldmar Hospicecare provides community nursing in patient homes in the Sherborne area for anyone with a life limiting condition, as well as Day Services in nearby Gillingham and Shaftesbury.
