30. Bonnie Jones
Bonnie started working for Weldmar at Home in January 2022, having previously worked on an acute ward at Dorset County Hospital. When Bonnie saw the role advertised, she knew instantly that she wanted to apply for it, she says “we used to see patients going from our ward to Weldmar Hospicecare and met patients who had already been there, and I always was told how wonderful, calm and amazing it was. My interest was always in palliative care, and I was eager to apply!”
Bonnie’s working day involves driving to patient’s houses, supporting patients and their families in their homes, assisting with personal care, answering questions and signposting to other healthcare professionals such as the Weldmar Community Nurses and District Nurses. She also spends time with patients so that families can go out and get some fresh air, a walk or to pop to the shops, to give them a moment of respite.
“We make so many memories every single day, I’m very lucky that I get to be a part of this journey for our patients to support them and their families. I am blessed to be able to meet so many wonderful people in our work.”
Bonnie has been one of the faces of Weldmar’s Gift in Wills advertising campaign, and has been featured on the back of buses and even starred in our very first TV advert. Bonnie really enjoyed being involved in the Gifts in Wills campaign “I got to meet more people in the organisation and make those new connections, whilst doing something important we were still able to have fun alongside this.”
It was important to Bonnie to be involved in promoting Weldmar, she says “Weldmar is a fantastic charity, close to many people’s hearts. At some point in life, we will all experience loss and grief, and when you are able to turn to a charity to support you through this time with professionalism and compassion, it can make that difficult time that little bit easier.”
