25. John Lockyer
When it feels as if a volunteer is truly a part of your team, you know they’re doing something right. For almost twenty years, John Lockyer has been an indispensable cog in the fundraising machine at Weldmar.
If it needs doing in Dorchester, John is there. He’s put up signs for events. He’s hand delivered letters to DT1. He’s collected and restocked many of the donation pods you see on shop counters around the town. He’s helped to sort raffle tickets that arrive by the thousand. He’s ferried internal post between the charity’s offices and Inpatient Unit.
Previously, John also enjoyed being part of events such as the Colour Run and Bubble Rush, Smedmore House open gardens, and his personal favourite – the Weldmar Dog Show! As well as this, John has been an active member of the Volunteer Forum, which gives fellow volunteers a regular opportunity to have their say and provide feedback.
John became a volunteer because he says Weldmar were “so brilliant” looking after his wife when she sadly died of cancer, and for the support they gave to him at such a difficult time, saying it effectively saved his life.
Caroline Munslow, Weldmar Hospicecare’s Volunteer Services Advisor, says “John is truly amazing and will turn his hand to just about anything, and always with a smile.”
