Skills for life: How taking on an apprenticeship with Weldmar increased Anna’s abilities and confidence

10th February 2025

Weldmar Hospicecare

To mark National Apprenticeship Week 2025, we’ve been talking to Anna Copeland, Assistant Practitioner with Weldmar Hospicecare’s community team.

Anna has recently completed a Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care, which she was able to do alongside her role.

Anna says that she had a misconception about apprenticeships: “When I started, I felt it was something for people just leaving school and that maybe I was a bit too old! But you can do it at any age and you can can do it alongside your job. My role didn’t change, and I could still continue to provide support in the community, but I was also learning and gaining extra knowledge through the apprenticeship.”

Julie Ward, Learning and Development Manager at Weldmar, says: “Whatever role you take up in Weldmar, be it a clinical role such as Anna’s or in an area such as retail, fundraising or finance, we can support you in furthering your career and your skills with an apprenticeship. At Weldmar, we are proud to invest in our team, helping to ensure that we are delivering the very best services for our patients and their loved ones. Apprenticeships help create tangible opportunities for people of all backgrounds, and learning alongside your role means that you can get the qualifications whilst earning a wage.”
