Annual Volunteers Celebration at Weldmar recognises many of the unsung heroes of the charity
5th June 2023
< BACK TO NEWSThe 1st – 7th of June is Volunteers Week!
Volunteers Week is an annual celebration of volunteers across the country for all their hard work within their communities and for charities.
As part of this celebration, we host our Annual Volunteers’ Event every June to celebrate our Weldmar volunteers and all their achievements.

This year the event was held in the meadow at our Inpatient Unit, where volunteers could catch up with friends over a delicious buffet created by our catering team.
At each Annual Volunteers’ Event, Weldmar volunteers who have been part of the team for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years receive a Long Service Award, which recognises those who have given so much of their time to helping Weldmar Hospicecare.
This year also welcomes a new award – ‘Room to Reward’! This unique volunteer-recognition charity was created to offer breaks to hidden heroes, and we are delighted to have been able to award the Room to Reward certificates to five of our Weldmar volunteers this year.
“It’s just a wonderful occasion,” says Caroline Munslow, Weldmar’s Volunteer Services Adviser, “and we’re really looking forward to celebrating with our volunteers today, just to say thank you for everything they do for Weldmar Hospicecare!”
Trisha and Jannette, who are retail volunteers in our Swanage charity shop, received their 10 year and 5 year badges today.
“It’s really nice to be appreciated,” Said Trisha, “it’s really lovely to see all the other people that have come from the other shops as well.” “And getting their awards and their badges!” adds Jannette.
Complementary Therapy Volunteer and Fundraiser Marie received one of our first ever Room to Reward awards!
“I’m very proud today to have been presented with an award […] for all the work I do for complementary therapy, and also I do do cover for reception at various times.” Marie adds, “Anything we do in any way is only going to help the patient at a time when they need that comfort and care [and] that it’s available and also for the care given to their families.”
“It’s lovely to have such an event that actually shows appreciation!”
