Will you be able to help build the foundations of our future?
Weldmar Hospicecare is built upon the Dorset community that we so proudly serve.
It is only thanks to your support that thousands of people, each and every year, are able to access the high-quality care that is expected of Weldmar, delivered with the highest level of compassion, dignity and respect when people are facing one of life’s most difficult journeys.
With the demand for our services far exceeding the level we are able to provide, continuously adapting our approach is key to meet the needs and wishes of so many families throughout Dorset. Being able to accommodate more outpatient appointments allows our team of skilled and caring professionals to support more people.
Our new Outpatient Suite will not only help us to meet the demand for our services for those who need us right now, but also ensure that we are securing the care for those who will need us in the future.

Constantly evolving and adapting to ensure we can deliver outstanding care
The transition from spring to summer brings a new phase of growth, which mirrors the care that Weldmar provides throughout Dorset, and the direction we are heading.
We’ve previously shared with you the ongoing financial challenges that are faced by hospices all across the UK, as well as the increased demand for our services from people when they really need us most. We’ve launched an enhanced and valuable new community service, bringing together the expertise of our Weldmar Community Nurses and the team providing hands on care in patient homes across Dorset (previously Weldmar at Home), as our Specialist Hospice at Home Service. This significant development means that patients will receive the appropriate level of care, quickly and sustainably without compromising on the high standards expected of our team.
The standard of clinical care that we provide is exceptional but our support is much wider than that. It’s about treating someone as an individual, with dignity, compassion and respect. It’s about understanding their emotional and physical needs, as well as helping to manage their symptoms and ensuring they are comfortable.

We need your support to help build the foundations of our future
Because of you, we’re here for patients, their carers, those experiencing bereavement, children – the whole family. This includes:
- Tailored individual counselling, approached sensitively and professionally, for both adults and children experiencing grief and the emotions associated with it
- Our ground breaking Wellbeing Support programme through activities such as arts and crafts, pamper sessions and gardening
- Providing relaxing and much needed therapies such as massage and reflexology, working alongside conventional medicines to easy symptoms, reduce anxiety, and more
By expanding this outpatient support at our hospice in Dorchester, we are able to care for more people by reducing the time our team spends on the road, minimising additional unnecessary costs and simply being able to support more families in any given day.
Make a donation nowIf you donate to this special appeal to fund our new Outpatient Suite, we will be able to:
- Double the number of treatment rooms where we can provide complementary therapies
- Increase the number of calm and quiet counselling spaces for those experiencing grief
- Be able to provide more physiotherapy assessments to enable patients to stay mobile for as long as possible
You’ll be giving hope, independence and security to ensure we can continue to meet the demand for our services for those who need us now, and long into the future.
Through a capital grant funded by the government, we have already secured some funding to build an extension at our Inpatient Unit which will house our brand new Outpatient Suite and help us on our path to a more sustainable future. But, we’ve still some way to go to ensure that the new spaces are warm, welcoming and fit for purpose to provide a calm environment. That’s where we need your help.
Without you, there is no Weldmar Hospicecare. And without our care and support, hundreds of families every single year would face one of life’s most difficult journeys on their own. It’s not worth imagining. Will you help us to secure tomorrows care?

Create your JustGiving page hereIs the building work necessary and why now?
The demand for our services continues to increase annually, with more patients and their loved ones looking to Weldmar for vital care and support. To enable us to reach as many families as possible it is important that we increase providing support through outpatient appointments. This not only reduces additional overhead costs and time on the road for our team, but allows them to provide more care each day, whether that be counselling, assessments or treatments. Our new Outpatient Suite will allow us adequate dedicated space to provide this tailored approach and meet the increased demand for our care. We have secured some funding from the government which will support this extension.
How is the Government supporting the building works?
In late 2024, the UK Government announced £100M ringfenced exclusively for hospices to fund building and facility upgrades and refurbishments, which will be shared across 220+ hospices. This capital grant from the Government cannot be used to fund patient care services, and must be used for enhancing building environments only, and we are maximising this one-off opportunity to benefit our services for those who will need us in the future. The capital grant will help fund the physical building works and extension at our Inpatient Unit site, but we still need to raise funds through our supporters to turn these spaces into a warm and welcoming environment for our outpatient services.
How will my support help?
The Government grant will help fund the physical building works, and your support will ensure that the spaces are warm and welcoming for everyone who accesses our outpatient support. From helping to fund comfortable furniture and warm furnishings for our counselling spaces, to equipment to provide complementary therapy treatments and the additional linen and towels required to meet the increased demand for these services – your support will ensure that we can continue to deliver the very best care and reach more people through our enhanced offering.
Can my donation be used for a specific purpose?
When you donate, you have the opportunity to tell us which of our outpatient services you would like your donation to fund, or if you are happy for us to use it wherever it is needed most, you can choose that option too. If you are holding a fundraising event or taking place in a sponsored challenge and wish for your money to support the appeal, please let our team know.
When will the works take place?
We are planning for the works to take place from Summer 2025 through to Spring 2026 and will provide regular updates on our website.
Will you need to stop any of your existing services during the building works?
No, all of our services will continue to operate during the project works. Our Inpatient Unit will continue to provide 24/7 care, our Specialist Hospice at Home team will support people in their own homes, and our existing support and holistic services will continue to be provided either in the community or in their current locations.

New complementary therapy suites
Therapeutic treatments such as massage, reflexology and aromatherapy can bring comfort, pain relief and a reflective space for patients which can help with things like symptom control and managing pain. It can also help reduce anxiety, stress and the sense of overriding upset for relatives, those experiencing bereavement and carers too.

More counselling and emotional support spaces
Our care isn’t only for the patient, but for the whole family by providing bereavement support during and after a loved one’s final days. Your donation will enable us to provide more safe space where people can express their feelings and learn to live with their grief, with specialist support also being provided to children who are experiencing the illness of a loved one.

Better access to Wellbeing Support Sessions
Often people are referred to as a ‘patient’ or a ‘carer’ and are given a title based on where they are on their personal journey. Our Wellbeing Support Sessions are based around treating someone as an individual and is a ground breaking development in the way in which hospice care is provided.
Weldmar is believed to be the first hospice care provider in the UK to introduce blended sessions, where patients, carers, and those experiencing bereavement can all come together with one shared interest.

A place for physiotherapy and occupational therapy assessments
Supporting patients to remain independent for as long as possible is a key part of our care, whether through facilitating individual assessments or providing specialist equipment for the home, to allow patients to live as fully as possible. Our dedicated therapists help patients to stay at home if that’s where they want to be care for, or help individuals achieve a personal ambition, whether it is attending a wedding, or being able to enjoy a short walk along the seafront with their dog.
