Following his comments about Weldmar Hospicecare in the recent debate in parliament about hospice funding, West Dorset MP Chris Loder has paid a visit to the charity’s Inpatient Unit.
Mr Loder met with CEO Caroline Hamblett, patients currently staying at the hospice, and a number of nursing staff. The MP also visited the Wellbeing Support Session that was taking place, and met with members of our Patient and Family Services Support team.
He explained what he saw and discovered on his visit, and how the recent debate should be a springboard for a more sustainable model for hospice funding in the UK:
The visit comes as Weldmar prepares to raise an ambitious £250,000 in just thirty hours in their Making Every Moment Matter campaign, to help combat a predicted million pound shortfall between the cost of providing specialist care and support to local adults with a life limiting illness, and the expected income through traditional fundraising and charity shops.
