Day Services patients return as lockdown eases, with a new outdoor space in Weymouth

< BACK TO NEWSThe easing of lockdown restrictions has meant that we have been able to welcome back patients to Weldmar’s Day Services.
The first session has taken place at Trimar House in Weymouth today, where a new outdoor space has also been unveiled for patients to enjoy during warmer weather.
There are lots of plants and flowers, trellises, seating, and patients can either help out with some of the gardening tasks, or just sit and enjoy the surroundings. They will soon start to grow their own vegetables in a bespoke Veg Trug.

June (pictured above) was the first patient to see the new outdoor area, which members of the Day Services team have been busy putting together during lockdown. She said, “I think it’s brilliant. It gives us all something to enjoy and concentrate on.”
June also told us that she couldn’t wait to return to Day Services:
“I wanted to come back! I’ve been shut in for so long that I feel I’ve lost some confidence, so I’m glad I can get back in and have a good laugh with everyone. I’m so glad to be back, because I know I will be looked after here.”

Jenny Wood is Day Services Lead, and is excited to have the service back up and running again. “It’s felt like it’s been a really long time for people, who have been shielding, isolating, and staying away, but now there’s a real sense that we can come back together again, slowly and safely. We’ve got some very excited faces here today, people have really missed getting together and be able to share things with each other.”
Day Services resume in Weymouth every Monday at Trimar House, at our Inpatient Unit in Dorchester on a Tuesday, on Wednesdays at Bridport Community Hospital, and Blandford Community Hospital every Thursday.
At present, it’s not possible to resume Day Services on Friday at Westminster Memorial Hospital in Shaftesbury, so Jenny and her team will be out on the road instead.
“We are really excited to be taking out the Weldmar Community Outreach Vehicle out in North Dorset on Fridays, reaching those people and those communities that we might not otherwise get to regularly.”
