Discovering a family heirloom at Weldmar’s Bookshop
2nd November 2019
The Weldmar Hospiececare bookshop is full of literary treasures.
It’s where you’ll be able to find vintage and antiquarian books, volumes of local interest, as well as modern bestsellers.
Manager Rob Mutter recently discovered a book of poems from 1927, ‘Over The Anvil’ written in a northern dialect by a Northumbrian blacksmith called Richard Scott. Inside was a handwritten dedication: “To John Scott Todd, my father’s book of poems, from Edith”.
Intent on discovering more, Rob consulted the Ancestry website and tracked down the author’s great-granddaughter in London, and sent her a note to offer her the book as a family heirloom.
Thanks to Rob’s diligence, Weldmar Hospicececare has been sent a donation for £50 for the book.
Weldmar Hospicecare’s bookshop can be found on South Terrace, South Street, Dorchester.
