Supporting hospice care in style – Weldmar’s new look Dorchester Superstore opens its doors
28th January 2026
Bargain hunters and charity supporters turned out in force this morning for the grand reopening of the Weldmar Hospicecare Superstore on the Marabout Industrial Estate.
Formerly known as the Dorchester Outlet, the site has undergone a stunning transformation, bringing a lighter, more welcoming atmosphere for shoppers and donors alike, complete with the charity’s signature blue trim.
Throughout the store, new displays highlight Weldmar’s work, allowing visitors to see exactly how their pre-loved purchases help fund specialist care across Dorset for local adults who have a life limiting illness.
Manager Sarah Pavey joined Chairman of the board of trustees, Stephen Baynard, to cut the ribbon, and says: “It’s so exciting to see all the crowds here this morning … they were all queuing to get in here at ten o’clock this morning! We’ve got beautiful furniture, lovely clothes, books, DVDs, CDs, toys, and more. We’re ready and raring to go!
Ruth Dempsey, a staff member since 2016, is thrilled with the change: “It looks really fresh. I work on Sundays and we have so many wonderful regulars; it’s lovely to see the shop buzzing again.”
Volunteer Lizzy Pollard added: “There’s such a great atmosphere and camaraderie here. It’s well-organised, crisp, and that Weldmar blue looks fantastic. It’s a joy to be part of this team.”
Weldmar’s programme of shop improvements continues with the Bookshop on South Street in Dorchester, with a new superstore also planned for Bridport.
All shops that have the new look have seen their contribution to charity coffers increase as a result, ensuring funding for more care for patients and their loved ones.
