Celebrating Nursing Support Worker Day: Meet Mel

Today is Nursing Support Worker Day, and at Weldmar Hospicecare, our Health Care Assistants are integral to the care we provide to our patients, both in the hospice and out in the community.
We recently launched Weldmar at Home, providing care to those in the last four weeks of life, who wish to die at home.
Melanie Cairnduff is part of the Weldmar at Home team, and speaks about her experiences.
Mel had worked in domiciliary care for 21 years before joining the Weldmar at Home team. Mel had cared for a gentleman in her previous role for a number of years, and was caring for him when he died. Mel says ‘I’d helped him pass away peacefully.’ It made her think about a change of direction.
Mel searched for a role for 18 months before finding Weldmar at Home and was delighted when she got the role covering the Weymouth area. She says ‘I wanted to work in palliative care in the community. We provide such a high level of care that is centered around the client, and family needs.’
Mel thinks she’s made the right decision to move into palliative care ‘On a personal level, this job has been such a good change for me. It’s made me happier, even my husband says that I’m more me by doing this job.’
