Sahara trekkers raise an incredible £67,000 for Weldmar
16th November 2022< BACK TO NEWS
A group of thirty Weldmar Hospicecare supporters has returned from a challenging five day trek across the Sahara Desert, having raised £67,000 for the charity.
Such was the demand for places on the trek that another thirty supporters will be heading to the Sahara in March 2023.
Alaine Harman, from Weldmar’s Fundraising Team, led the team and says, “It was an absolute privilege to have shared the journey with such an incredible group, getting to know them on our regular training walks, and supporting them with their fundraising events such as 80’s discos, race nights, coffee and cake sales, to a big family fun day. From all that preparation and anticipation to the Sahara desert, where we trekked for many hours in extreme heat, and slept in tents with the most basic of facilities.”
“The group all supported each other. Memories and friendships were made that will last a lifetime. There was so much fun and laughter but also the poignant stories that the group shared about the loss of loved ones who were cared for by Weldmar Hospicecare. It was simply stunning, and the total of £67,000 is astonishing.”
All the money raised by the Sahara Trekkers will go towards the specialist end of life care that Weldmar provides to adults in Dorset with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones.
