#TeamWeldmar raises £9265 at Weymouth Half Marathon
17th March 2026
The atmosphere in Weymouth was nothing short of electric this past Sunday, 15th March. Thousands of runners took to the streets for the Weymouth Half Marathon, and among them thirteen #TeamWeldmar runners in their blue and green vests.
Our incredible team tackled the 13.1-mile course, which wound its way along the historic harbour, the Esplanade, and the scenic Jurassic coastline. Whether they were seasoned marathoners or first-time racers, every single runner was united by the shared goal of raising money for specialist end-of-life care for patients across Dorset, and support for their families.
And raise money they did, with an incredible total of £9265 being raised for Weldmar!
This money goes directly toward ensuring that we can continue to provide our services in the local community, and at our hospice in Dorchester.
Energy and determination
The runners were spurred on by the Weldmar cheer station, led by Weldmar Fundraiser Eden Fraser.
“We are all so proud of the runners; they were simply epic,” says Eden.
“Standing at the cheer station, you could feel the determination as they ran past. The energy they brought to the course despite the physical challenge was inspiring.
“I also want to say a huge thank you to Alan and the team at Just Racing for inviting us to be their charity partner for the second year in a row at this much-loved local event.”
Joe’s running journey
Among the many inspiring stories on the course was that of Joe Allen. For Joe, Sunday wasn’t just about a medal—it was a big step in his running journey that began only a few months ago.
“I thoroughly enjoyed running in the Weymouth Half Marathon, it was such a lovely atmosphere, and everyone was so friendly and supportive. I loved seeing all the Weldmar cheerleaders! I only started running in October, setting off on my first Couch to 5km run just 5 months prior to the Half Marathon.
“I am so incredibly proud of my achievement, but I couldn’t have done it without the support of my amazing wife Katie, and my training partner and sister Zoë. Unfortunately Zoë was injured in the week before and couldn’t run, but she popped up all over the course on her bike cheering me on and providing jelly snakes!
“She has done loads of treks and fund raising for Weldmar and we have always helped at her events. Weldmar provide such essential and wonderful services for those that need it and running on behalf on them and raising money is a privilege.”
Having now caught the running bug, Joe will be taking part in the London Royal Parks Half Marathon in October. His achievement serves as a fantastic reminder that you don’t need to be a lifelong athlete to make a difference. All it takes is that first step!
