Temporary closure of Weldmar’s Inpatient Unit for essential health and safety works
20th May 2026
There have been a number of building works and improvements at Weldmar Hospicecare’s Inpatient Unit over the past year, including the construction of a new Outpatient Suite, creating more car parking spaces, and the development of support staff offices.
Whilst none of these works have impacted on patient care, with the hospice remaining open to those needing care, 24 hours a day, the building will need to be closed for a very short period at the end of May for essential health and safety improvements.
Deputy CEO, Matt Smith, says “We are fortunate that we are able to continually improve the environment of our hospice building without disruption to those under our care. Very rarely, more substantial work is required which results in us having to review the impact and safety of patients and staff. There is currently a requirement for our 32-year-old fire alarm system to be upgraded, so we are facilitating a planned temporary closure of the building from Saturday 22nd May until Monday 1st June, where essential fire protection and other health and safety works will take place. This work will enable us to continue providing safe and much needed care long into the future.”
“We will continue to provide our services throughout our Specialist Hospice at Home team, and other vital support throughout the community, during this time to ensure patients and their families continue to receive the very best care from us.”
