13. Martin Clunes OBE

Martin is a very familiar face to many, but not just for being an excellent actor on television. He is a continued loyal supporter of many charities in Dorset, including Weldmar Hospicecare.

Martin first became involved with the charity back in the year 2000 when he kindly agreed to open the annual Weldmar Summer Fete, and since then, has been a welcomed addition nearly every year since. His support has even allowed many Weldmar supporters to feature in his popular show Doc Martin as part of the silent auction at the Fete.

But it’s not just taking time out to meet his fans and other supporters of the charity that is important to Martin. A highlight during his visits is being able to meet patients and families who are being cared for by Weldmar, often accompanied by one of his lovable dogs (or heavy horse, Bruce). Martin will spend hours sitting at bedsides and often sharing humorous stories or identifying a connection with the patients. He’ll spend time to meet with staff and thank them for their hard work and loyalty to the cause too.

Martin and his wife Philippa, generously planned and hosted Buckham Fair, a popular horse and dog show at their grounds near Beaminster for ten years, raising over £600,000 for Dorset charities, including Weldmar Hospicecare.

His commitment to the county and services to charity was just one of the reasons that he was deservingly awarded an OBE in 2015.

Martin’s continued loyalty and genuine support towards Weldmar Hospicecare is greatly appreciated, and we thank him for being part of the Weldmar family for so many years.
