Five brave local people have been locked up together for a day to raise money for charity, including Weldmar Hospicecare.

Our second Jail & Bail event has taken place at Shire Hall Museum in Dorchester, where our ‘prisoners’ were sentenced by the judge in the historic courthouse before being led down to the cells. They then hit the phones and social media to try and raise a minimum of £999 in ‘bail’ for the charity.

Here are some highlights from the day:

Amy Lillington from rebuildcostASSESSMENT.com, and Claudia Webb from Ingleside Residential Home, joined Sarah Pavey and Max Brimble from Weldmar Hospicecare, and collectively raised a brilliant £5,829 between them for Weldmar!

David Lakins from Key Digital supported the Memory Cafe at Shire Hall Museum, and the £1,220 he raised will enable them to expand their reminiscence activities, offering an additional session every month for people living with dementia and their carers.

Fundraising Lead at Weldmar Hospicecare, Fiona Hansford, says, “It was a brilliant day, and such a great atmosphere. Almost £6,000 raised by just four people during one day is incredible, and that means nine people will be able to receive 24 hours of care at Weldmar’s Inpatient Unit in Dorchester, at a crucial time in their journey when they need more sustained care for their symptoms. Every time I went down to see the ‘prisoners’, they were in great spirits and encouraging each other to reach their targets. Thank you to Shire Hall Museum for being wonderful hosts, as their courtroom and cells are the perfect setting for Jail and Bail!”

Thank you to all of our participants and their supporters!
