< BACK TO NEWSThe sun was shining as 20 intrepid adventurers took to the cliffs on Portland for our brand new abseil challenge. The supporters all faced their fears to raise over £6000 for Weldmar Hospicecare with every penny raised on the day going towards providing specialist care for adults in Dorset with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones.
For friends and supporters Selena and Leyla it meant a lot to be able to do the abseil for Weldmar “We do as many challenges as we can for Weldmar, we’ve been supporting Weldmar for about 10 years now. This was a new challenge, and well done Weldmar, this has definitely pushed us out of our comfort zones!”
Brave participant Mandy thought this new abseil challenge was an amazing experience, she said “It was terrifying but amazing, you’ve got to do it. You’ve got to remember it is for a good cause anytime you do it, and the challenge is done now! It was amazing and I would do it again, 100%”
The participants were calmed of their nerves by Alex and James from the team at Adventure4All, who partnered with Weldmar Hospicecare for the challenge. Company director Alex Sergison said “The bravery and determination shown by participants this weekend was second to none. This was a big a scary task. Thank you to all who showed up and took it on. Massive thanks to Weldmar for giving us opportunity to work with them and the amazing service they continue to provide.”
The fundraising team from Weldmar were also on hand to offer support and encouragement, Eden Fraser said “I am extremely proud of all of our abseilers who pushed themselves to do something they hadn’t done before, all in aid of raising money for Weldmar Hospicecare. Many of the supporters taking part have personal connections to the charity and it was the knowledge of doing it for a good cause that gave them the extra encouragement to go over the edge and complete the abseil. It was a great day and we look forward to doing holding more abseiling events in the future.”
