An ‘Oarsome’ challenge – Tim and Eddie prepare to kayak across the Channel for Weldmar
16th April 2021
Tim Ellis and Eddie Ette from Portland are no strangers to endurance challenges.
In 2006 they ran 35 miles over the pebbles of Chesil Beach in 11 hours. They have both completed the Enduroman ‘Arch to Arc’ Triathlon between London and Paris. They have also kayaked from Cherbourg to Portland, and set the kayaking record for the 100 mile circuit of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.
They will be picking up their paddles once again this May to kayak non-stop from Alderney, in the Channel Islands, to Weymouth, all to raise money for Weldmar Hospicecare.
We spoke to them to find out more about the sixty mile challenge:
They will be supported by Nick Wedgwood and his volunteer crew on board the 57″ ketch Willowtarn, pictured below, which will be escorting them across, keeping them topped up with much needed refreshments and making radio contact with other vessels to ensure Tim and Eddie are not an inconvenience to shipping!
