Bridport Round Table tee up a bumper donation for Weldmar with Charity Golf Day

Former footballer Matt Le Tissier was the special guest at a charity golf day that has raised more than £6,000 for Weldmar Hospicecare.

Bridport Round Table hosted the event at Lyme Regis Golf Club, featuring eighteen holes of golf, dinner, and evening entertainment. An auction featured signed memorabilia from the footballer turned pundit, as well as Liverpool star Trent Alexander Arnold, and boxer Tyson Fury.

In total, £6,097.20 was raised for Weldmar Hospicecare, which were joint beneficiaries of the event alongside fellow hospice charity, Somerset’s St Margaret’s Hospice.

Vice Chair of Bridport Round Table, Daniel Cree, Treasurer James Rooney, and Paul Watkins, Secretary, came to Weldmar’s Bridport charity shop to hand over the much needed funds, which will help provide specialist care for local people with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones.

Mr Cree said, “Bridport Round Table were delighted to present a cheque for £6,097.20 to Weldmar Hospicecare following our successful charity golf day held on the 2nd May 2025 at Lyme Regis Golf Club. 22 teams took part on the day and were joined by celebrity guest player Matt Le Tissier. A total of £12,194.40 was raised from the event and spit between the two nominated charities. We are very grateful to all teams, sponsors and supporters of event, who made it possible to raise such a fantastic sum of money for local hospice care provider. Weldmar is a vital local charity and it was an easy decision to choose them as one of the nominated charities to fundraise for the golf day.”

Eden Fraser, Weldmar’s Fundraiser, said, “We are incredibly thankful to Bridport Round Table for their support of Weldmar Hospicecare with their charity golf event. We have just introduced our Specialist Hospice at Home Service, which has a West Dorset hub serving the people of Bridport, Lyme Regis, and everywhere in between, offering specialist care for those experiencing life limiting illness, and their loved ones. Support from local people, and organisations such as the Round Table, go a long way in making sure these services can continue, and provided free to those who need them.”
