South Dorset MP Lloyd Hatton visits Weldmar Hospicecare and pledges support with funding

Lloyd Hatton, the recently elected MP for South Dorset, has paid a visit to Weldmar Hospicecare’s Inpatient Unit in Dorchester.

Mr Hatton met Weldmar’s CEO, Caroline Hamblett, and Director of Clinical Services, Caroline Sweetland, to discuss the current financial crisis in the hospice sector. Weldmar is forecast to spend around £1M more this year on providing services that it expects to raise, with just 17% of income coming through the NHS.

The MP also took a tour of the hospice and met with nurses and other members of staff, as well as patients.

He spoke to us at the end of his visit, saying he will be ‘making sure Weldmar always has the funding that it needs’, to continue to ‘keep providing that amazing care’.
