Families experiencing bereavement supported with Christmas crafts and hot chocolate at Weldmar
15th December 2025
At Weldmar, our care doesn’t stop when a patient dies. Our Patient and Family Support team is there for their loved ones as they experience the most difficult time.
Support includes counselling, attending Wellbeing Support Session activities, and we have bespoke help for children and young people.
The lead up to Christmas can be particularly difficult for families who have lost a loved one through a life limiting illness, so the team hosted a special evening at our Inpatient Unit in Dorchester, with crafts, activities, hot chocolate and cookies.

Sandra Francis is Weldmar’s Children and Young Person’s Counsellor, and she explains more about the event, and what is provides to the families we care for:
We would like to thank Dorchester Family Church’s craft group who have knitted and crocheted little stockings and Tesco Dorchester for donating chocolates to fill them. These are to be gifted to the children and young people being supported at this time; they are also being sold in the IPU to raise funds for Weldmar, and they will be gifted to families in the IPU at Christmas.
Also, thank you to Gould’s Garden Centre in Weymouth for donating the wonderful Christmas tree for the Retreat, pictured above.
