A find in Weldmar Hospicecare’s Clearance Outlet in Dorchester has attracted national media attention.

A postcard, sent 66 years ago, has been forwarded to the person it was originally meant for after being discovered by sales assistant Samantha MacNicol.

75 year old Chris Hermon was tracked down on social media, and the postcard was forwarded to his home in Pershore, Worcestershire, where he revealed that he had never previously received it.

Mr Hermon was pen pals as a child with Fred Kendall, a publisher from New Jersey, but the pair lost contact in the 1970s.

He said, “I was absolutely elated when I got the message telling me about the postcard – I could not believe what I was reading, it was just so out of the blue.

“The card was addressed to Barclays Bank House in Peacehaven, Sussex, which is where I lived as a child. I have no idea how it ended up in a hospice charity in Dorset and I would love to find out more about it. It really is quite bizarre.”

“I am very grateful to the team at Weldmar for tracking me down and sending me the postcard along with a lovely Christmas card from the hospice themselves.

“They are wholly responsible for giving me the best Christmas present ever. The card will be framed and truly treasured forever.”

The story has appeared locally in the Dorset Echo, and also on the Daily Mail website.
