Second Hand September: Weldmar colleagues shine as we showcase fabulous fashion in our charity shops

1st September 2026

Weldmar Hospicecare

When did you last visit your local Weldmar Hospicecare shop to see the incredible range of quality fashion and accessories on offer?

Today marks the start of Second Hand September, our annual campaign showcasing the amazing clothes that you can discover in our shops, outlets, and superstores across Dorset!

Throughout this month on our Facebook page and Instagram feed, look out the fabulous outfits that we’ll be sharing, showing just what you can find in our shops, outlets and superstores.

In keeping with tradition, all of the clothes have been chosen by the members of our team who are the ‘stars’ of our Second Hand September campaign. They are: Ali Caldwell, Head of Weldmar’s Specialist Hospice at Home, Weldmar Counsellor Zoe Ryan, Assistant Practitioner Melanie Cairnduff, and volunteer Terry Gillingham.

Gavin Anderson-Terry is Director of Retail at Weldmar, and says: “There is such a wonderful community feel at our shops, from the generous supporters who bring in really excellent donations of clothes, through to those who are looking for a sustainable way to shop, or looking for quirky or one-off pieces that they’re unlikely to find elsewhere. Second Hand September is a great way to highlight that you can find something for every occasion, and it’s great to see colleagues from across our charity get involved and become models for the day!

“We’re continuing to roll out a fresh new, modern look at our shops, so they are more in keeping with what people expect from high street retailers. In fact, all of the shops that have had a makeover have increased their contribution to the charity coffers. As well as being sustainable for the environment, shopping with us also ensures a sustainable income for people like Ali, Mel, and Zoe to continue providing the outstanding care that they do.”

Our thanks to Weymouth Land Train, the E-BIKE Cafe, and Ralph Davies and family for assisting us with our Second Hand September photoshoot!

Why consider looking for clothes in charity shops?

Shopping with Weldmar is about so much more than finding a bargain (although there are plenty of those!). By choosing pre-loved fashion, you are:

Supporting vital care for local people

If you shop in one of our Weldmar charity shops, every purchase helps us to support adults across Dorset who have been diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses, as well as providing support for their families.

Finding something unique

From genuine vintage to one-off pieces you won’t see on the high street.

Bringing fun into fashion shopping!

There’s real joy in curating your very own signature style, when you never know what you might find!

Helping the planet

Every item bought secondhand is one item less going to landfill, and you’ll be making a conscious choice to reduce waste and overproduction caused by the fast fashion industry.
