Hundreds of local shoppers visit Weldmar’s Bridport Superstore as doors open for the first time

Weldmar Hospicecare has opened a brand new superstore in Bridport.

Located in West Street in the premises previously occupied by Lilliput’s Textiles and Home Store, the new store includes furniture as well as fashion and accessories, homewares and entertainment.

The new manager, Shirley Luter, is a familiar face in Bridport having worked at Peach Electrical for more than thirty years, and more recently at Scriven’s Opticians. Shirley was absolutely delighted with the constant stream of shoppers once the doors opened at 10am: “It’s absolutely wonderful! Look at all the people! It’s amazing, and we’re all really excited. It looks really amazing too, and everyone’s done such a brilliant job to get us ready and fully stocked for today. We’re looking forward to welcoming the people of Bridport and beyond.”

The ribbon was cut by members of Weldmar’s Specialist Hospice at Home West Dorset hub, which is based in the town.

Sarah from Bridport was one of the first through the door, and said: “It looks fantastic. I get all my clothes from charity shops these days, and there is so much choice here. As well as a summer dress and a bag, I also picked up a couple of games which my four year old will love playing with, and a bracelet for my daughter.”

Vinyl lovers will not only enjoy browsing through a range of records, but can play them beforehand on an instore turntable.

The new store offers collection and delivery of larger items on Tuesdays and Thursdays, across the DT6, DT7, and DT8 area.

Weldmar’s charity shop on East Street in the town will continue to operate as normal, offering shoppers more choice of quality pre-loved items.

Got donations?

If you have just a bag of items you can comfortably carry, you can pop in to donate it. There is also a donation point at the rear of the store in Lilliput Lane. Ask instore about the collection and delivery service for larger items.
