Payroll Giving Week: Easy ways to support Weldmar Hospicecare while you work
7th February 2022
Did you know that this week is National Payroll Giving Week? No – we didn’t think you did!
There are some really easy ways that you can support Weldmar Hospicecare while you’re at work. Small donations from lots of employees add up to make a real difference and gives us, as a charity, a regular income that we can rely on.
Payroll Giving
Payroll Giving is a flexible scheme which allows anyone in the UK that pays UK income tax to give regularly and on a tax free basis to charities. Why donate through Payroll Giving? As donations are taken from your salary before the tax man gets to it, it costs you less! For example, a donation of £5 a month will cost a basic rate tax payer £4 and a higher rate tax payer just £3!
Every Penny Counts
Would you miss the pennies from your pay? Probably not… so why not give them to us? Signing up to ‘every penny helps’ will see your salary rounded down to the nearest pound, with the pennies donated to Weldmar Hospicecare.
For example, if your net pay is £850.34 each month, the 34p will be taken as donation to Weldmar Hospicecare and you keep the £850. The most you can ever give is 99p every time you are paid. Simple! What’s more donations made through ‘every penny helps’ are eligible for Gift Aid, meaning we will receive an additional 25% at no extra cost to you.
Fiona Hansford is Weldmar Hospicecare’s Business Development Fundraiser, and says, “The support of the local business community is really important for a charity like Weldmar Hospicecare, which itself provides itself on being part of the community in Dorset.
“Simple initiatives like these can make such a difference. It’s mutually beneficial, as Weldmar will benefit from the regular donations, whilst it also helps raise the profile of the business involved who have an opportunity to show they are supporting a very good local cause.
“As well as these options for businesses, there are other ways they can get involved, and I am there to help provide support every step of the way. This could be through employee based fundraising such as fancy dress days or bake sales, or providing employees the chance to volunteer as a team or individually. Simply donating a proportion of the sale of a certain product or service can also be a good way to affordably make a contribution.”
